About

Thank-you for visiting my website, it is nice to meet you.

My name is Devin Ryan and I came in to this world on February 5th, 1985 in Dryden, ON.  When I came of age I started school at St. Joseph’s Elementary where I began my formal education.   My interest in technology started in grade six when I was introduced to website design using hyper-text mark-up language (HTML) my first real dose of what one could do with a computer, as our prior computer classes basically consisted of learning the MS Office Suite and typing lessons.  Fast forward a few years, and I was getting pretty good at creating basic websites, but never truly had my own website until 2007.

I was first introduced to programming in my grade ten computer science class, taught by Spuro Sourtzis, and I absolutely loved it.  It was during that course that I decided to take computer science in post-secondary, and unlike some that couldn’t make up their minds or changed their mind many times throughout high school, once I made that decision I stuck with it and continued taking computer science courses in grade eleven and twelve.   I started by expanding on my HTML knowledge and moved in to the language C, and then in my senior years I was introduced to Java.

I am presently working towards a BSc Computer Science degree in the business option at Lakehead University.  Obtaining my degree is one of the most important aspects of my life right now.  I started attending Lakehead in the fall of 2006.  When not in school I am working, last job was at the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) in their Information Services Department.  While working for the KPDSB as a helpdesk student I gained valuable experience in running a computer helpdesk, network/user administration, voice over IP using Asterisk and FreePBX, and conducting training sessions to name a few.

Ever since my introduction to technology I have followed advancements and new technology that has come about, the best I can without it interfering with my education.  I love gadgets even though I don’t have many myself, because I don’t have the funds to support that lifestyle just yet, due to the aforementioned pursuit of education, I still try and get the more (affordable) important ones that I feel will benefit me and read up and learn about the others.

I am constantly trying to gain new knowledge and experiences, both personally and professionally.  My goal is to branch out and obtain a student position in software development, preferably using Java.
